Day 19: Website, Basic SEO

Need to catch up? Go to Day 1.

On Day 17 and Day 18 I wrote about how to build a website and fill it with content. Today we’re going to make it easy for search engines to read your site. This will bring you higher rankings (getting on page 1 in Google) which will allow potential clients the ability to find your website in a Google search.

What are Meta Tags? This is something that is invisible to web searchers, but visible to Google and other search engines. Filling out these tags helps Google understand what subjects your pages are about. Each page should have its own title and description. This will help Google send web searchers to the correct page.

Keep your goals in mind. If I was this agent in Austin, Texas, I would want people to find my site when they type in “Commercial Real Estate Agent Austin”. Now that I have a goal, I’ll write my meta tags.

Meta Title. I suggest writing your keyword twice in the title, without being too obvious. Google doesn’t like keyword mongers, so you have to be a little subtle. For this example, I’ll write the following meta title: Austin Commercial Real Estate Agent – Industrial Agent in Austin Texas

Meta Description. Your key words also need to be placed in the description. Keeping my goal in mind, I want to state these keywords twice. Here’s my meta description: <Full Name> is an expert commercial real estate agent in Austin, Texas. Download the Special Report and see why I’m the expert industrial commercial real estate agent for Austin, Texas.

Meta Tag Examples. Each page should be different, but keep you goal in mind.
